The highly anticipated teaser for the period drama Kaantha was released by the film's creators on Dulquer Salmaan's birthday, providing an engrossing look into a world of artistic rivalry, broken friendships, and ambition.
The film, which was co-produced by Dulquer's Wayfarer Films and Rana Daggubati's Spirit Media, was directed by Selvamani Selvaraj and is set in the nostalgic Madras of the 1950s. The film will hit the screens on September 12.
Kaantha centres on a compelling story that contrasts art and ego. At its heart is the tale of two renowned artists: Chandran, a star he once mentored, and Ayya, a visionary filmmaker. When ego and ambition start to take precedence over friendship, their strong bond—which was based on respect for one another and creative synergy—breaks.
When Ayya chooses to direct the female-focused movie Shaantha, the plot becomes more complex. To further his reputation and legacy, Chandran, who is now a powerful figure in the field, quietly seizes control of the project, renaming it Kaantha and distorting its original purpose.
With brooding depth, Dulquer Salmaan portrays the complicated and conflicted Chandran, highlighting the inner turmoil of a man motivated by both insecurity and admiration. As Ayya, Samuthirakani gives a remarkable performance, capturing the solemnity of a filmmaker torn between loyalty and treachery. In a promising role, Bhagyashri Borse also excels.

Tha. Ramalingam's meticulous period art direction and Dani Sanchez Lopez's breathtaking cinematography enhance the film's visual depth. The teaser lingers long after it concludes thanks to Jhanu Chanthar's eerie music, which heightens the suspense and emotional gravity.
Kaantha promises to be more than just a period drama thanks to its gripping premise, multi-layered characters, and exquisite visuals. It is a dramatic examination of friendship, power, and the price of artistic pride.
