When a group of villagers from Lambadipally, Telangana, started posting glimpses of rural life on the YouTube channel My Village Show almost ten years ago, they had no idea what was ahead. As the star of Mothevari Love Story, a brand-new Telugu web series available on ZEE5, one of their own, Anil Geela, is currently enjoying the limelight. Burra Shiva Krishna, another graduate of the same YouTube channel, is the show's director.
In a recent interview, Anil expressed gratitude for the unexpected turn his career has taken while reflecting on his incredible journey from viral videos to mainstream media. "Every time I performed on YouTube, it ignited something inside of me. I realised I could aim for bigger roles after seeing myself on the big screen for the first time," he said.
From YouTube Stardom to the Silver Screen
Anil made his cinematic debut in the 2020 film World Famous Lover, starring Vijay Deverakonda. He claims that experience gave him the confidence to aim for more significant roles. Many of his coworkers from My Village Show, including Gangavva, Raju, Chandru, and Anji Maama, have also made the move to the film industry, demonstrating the ability of local digital content to create opportunities in the motion picture business.
"Our group has consistently concentrated on producing high-caliber entertainment with an authentic foundation. We were able to connect with audiences because of that," Anil said. "It feels surreal coming from a place where there aren't many film opportunities."
A Story Near to Home: The Mothevari Love Story
Two young Telangana lovers who elope and end up in strange circumstances are the focus of the humorous rural romance Mothevari Love Story. Anil claims that the show was made with urban viewers in mind, people who are looking for a laugh and a respite from their everyday routine. All of the actors are native to the area, and there is a lot of Telangana slang and authentic village situations. That lends it charm and authenticity," he stated.
For Anil, the show has sentimental significance as well. "We've gone full circle. My Village Show has featured numerous actors, as well as our director, writer, and producer. It is a proud moment to witness our modest beginnings blossom into a platform such as ZEE5.
The Deverakonda Brothers' support
Even though Anil and his team started their brand from scratch, industry celebrities' backing has been crucial to his development. He attributes his breakthrough role in World Famous Lover to Vijay Deverakonda. "I felt like I could do this because of that opportunity," he said.
Anil also thanked the actors Priyadarshi, Tarun Bhascker, and Anand Deverakonda for their contributions to the online promotion of Mothevari Love Story. "However, everything changed for me with Vijay Anna's help. Anand Deverakonda even introduced our poster later. We got a huge boost from their support," he said.

Gazing Ahead
Even though he is now a leading actor, Anil is still more concerned with telling stories than becoming famous. "I'm not only looking for lead parts. I want to play roles that have purpose and aid in my personal development," he declared. In addition to realizing a personal ambition, Anil Geela's Mothevari Love Story demonstrates how rural artists can achieve success without sacrificing their heritage.
His journey from a small village YouTube channel to a significant over-the-top platform is proof of skill, tenacity, and the potency of in-house storytelling.
