Dwayne Johnson recently thanked his fans and well-wishers for their love and support for his latest film, The Smashing Machine, after it did not perform well at the box office after its release on October 3.

The Smashing Machine is a sports drama based on the life of MMA star Mark Kerr. However, the film grossed just $5.9 million (£4.3 million) since its opening, making it Dwayne Johnson's lowest box office debut of his career.

Taking to Instagram, Dwayne remarked that actors can't control the box office numbers and, despite its underperformance, he thanked his director for the opportunity.

Sharing glimpses of his character from the film, he wrote, "From deep in my grateful bones, thank you to everyone who has watched "The Smashing Machine”. In our storytelling world, you can’t control box office results — but what I realized you can control is your performance, and your commitment to completely disappear and go elsewhere."

He also expressed gratitude for being able to portray Mark's character on screen. "And I will always run to that opportunity. It was my honor to transform in this role for my director Benny Safdie @bowedtie. Thank you brother for believing in me. Truth is this film has changed my life. With deep gratitude, respect and radical empathy, dj."
