Veteran actress Hema Malini revisited her past today and pulled out one of those frames that never really fade. She posted a still from the 1977 film Kinara on her social media handle, where she starred opposite Dharmendra. The picture shows the two lost in one of those gentle, unhurried moments that defined Hindi cinema’s softer era.
In her caption, Hema Malini wrote that the scene remains ‘one of the most beautiful memories of me and Dharamji,’ noting how Kinara still holds a quiet place in her heart.
She also acknowledged director Gulzar, whose storytelling style shaped the film, along with Bhupinder Singh’s haunting vocals and R D Burman’s music that stitched everything together.
The timing of the post adds emotional weight. Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025, just days before his 90th birthday. His death marked the end of a towering chapter in Indian cinema.
The actor, known for his effortless charm and his ability to move between action, romance and family drama without a false note, had been unwell for some time. The Deol family had confirmed that he received the best care available, but age and prolonged illness finally caught up.
A few days ago Hema Malini made her first post about Dharmendra and wrote: “He was many things to me. Loving Husband, adoring Father of our two girls, Esha & Ahaana, Friend, Philosopher, Guide, Poet, my ‘go to’ person in all times of need - in fact, he was everything to me! And always has been through good times and bad. He endeared himself to all my family members with his easy, friendly ways, always showing affection and interest in all of them.
As a public personality, his talent, his humility in spite of his popularity, and his universal appeal set him apart as a unique icon unequalled among all the legends. His enduring fame and achievements in the film industry will last forever.
My personal loss is indescribable and the vacuum created is something that will last through the rest of my life.😢After years of togetherness, I am left with myriad memories to relive the many special moments…”
Since his passing, the industry has been revisiting old films, interviews and memories, almost as if trying to hold on to a man who symbolised an entire era of Hindi cinema. Hema Malini’s post stands out because it comes not from nostalgia alone, but from lived history. Kinara was one of the films that brought the two together at a time when their on-screen chemistry was evolving into something deeply personal off-screen.
Fans filled her comments with messages of support, recognising how difficult the last few days have been for her and the family. Many said the photo felt like a reminder of Dharmendra’s warmth, the kind that made audiences feel they knew him personally.
