
Warner Bros’s box office record
Film studio Warner Bros has recently released several films that enjoyed this year’s biggest opening at the US box office. From The Conjuring: Last Rites to Final Destination Bloodlines, the studio created a history after its seven consecutive films opened in the theatres with over $40 million. The latest achievement came after a disastrous run of box office hits, including 2024's Joker: Folie a Deux, Mickey 17, and The Alto Knights.
A Minecraft Movie
The video game adaptation, A Minecraft Movie, hit the theatres on April 4 and earned $162 million on the very first day with a whopping start at the box office. Jason Momoa starrer follows four misfits whose lives took a dramatic turn after they suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into a bizarre cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.
Superman
James Gunn directorial and David Corenswet-starrer Superman opened in the theatres with a whopping $125 million. The film chronicles Superman, who must reconcile his alien Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as reporter Clark Kent.
The Conjuring: Last Rites
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga returned as the iconic paranormal investigators, Ed Warren and Lorraine Warren, in Warner Bros’ The Conjuring: Last Rites for one last time. The film earned $83 million on its opening day in the US. The film revolves around paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren take on one last terrifying case involving mysterious entities they must confront.
F1: The Movie
Brad Pitt’s F1: The Movie debuted in the theatres with $57 million on June 27. The film received rave reviews from both critics and the audience alike. F1 follows a Formula One driver who comes out of retirement to mentor and team up with a younger driver.
Final Destination Bloodlines
The quartet of summer offerings, Final Destination Bloodlines, earned $51.6 million on its first day. The final instalment in the franchise follows a college student who returns home following a recurring violent nightmare, to find the one person who can break the cycle and save her family from the horrific fate that inevitably awaits them.
Sinners
Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s starrer Sinners continued the momentum of the studio and earned $48 million. The vampire thriller follows twin brothers' return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.
Weapons
Julia Garner starrer Weapons also made it to the list of Warner Bros' biggest openers of the year. The film earned ($43.5 million on its premiere day. Directed by Zach Cregger, the horror mystery follows the mysterious disappearance of a child from the same class night at exactly the same time. The community was left with the question of who or what was behind their disappearance.
