Prithviraj Sukumaran is well known for his acting abilities and also known for his directorial ventures, which include films like Lucifer (2019) and Bro Daddy (2022).
Both films received much love from the audiences, while both the films included Malayalam superstar Mohanlal - the duo is very famous and loved by the audiences, Prithviraj the director, had different plans for Bro Daddy.
In an interview with Galatta Plus during the promotions of his previous directorial venture L2: Empuraan, Prithviraj revealed his initial choice for the father's role in Bro Daddy was Mammootty and not Mohanlal.
Prithviraj revealed, “I pitched Bro Daddy to Mammukka (Mammootty) first. I wanted Mammooty sir to do John Kattadi and it wasn’t the same John you see today. My first idea of the film was a very Kottayam Kunjachan sort of character. A rich but very earthy Christian family.”
He further explained, “I thought it would be really cute to see Mammukka do this lovestruck husband and head over heels in love with his wife. Of late, nobody associates Mammootty sir with such a character. I pitched it to Mammukka, he liked the script but couldn’t do it as an immediate project.”
He also revealed that Mammootty wanted him to push this project further; however, Prithviraj was keen on directing the film during the COVID-19 pandemic, as it required a restricted space and a limited number of actors.
Prithviraj mentioned that if he were to collaborate with Mammootty after the restrictions were lifted, he would prefer to do something bigger rather than a film like Bro Daddy.
Bro Daddy is a Malayalam comedy-drama directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. It was released directly on OTT in 2022 on Disney+ Hotstar.
The film's plot revolves around John Kattadi (Mohanlal), the owner of Kattadi TMT Steel Bars, who hails from an affluent family.
Happily married to his wife Annamma, the couple has a son, Eesho (Prithviraj), who works as a creative director in an advertising company.
However, their lives take an awkward and humorous turn when John and Annamma the parents, become pregnant for the second time at the same time that their son and his girlfriend are expecting a child.
This chaotic drama of how they manage and navigate the situation is the basic plot of the film.
