Amidst all of this excitement, there is an intriguing fact that many people may not know: Aamir Khan himself suggested Genelia Deshmukh for the lead role, a choice that has produced a novel and engrossing on-screen duo.
Director R.S. Prasanna recently talked candidly about how Genelia Deshmukh ended up in the movie. In an interview with Vickey Lalwani, Prasanna disclosed that Aamir Khan came up with Genelia's name when they were talking about the female lead.
The Laal Singh Chaddha actor revealed that he recently met Genelia and her husband, Riteish Deshmukh, and that they are good friends. Aamir suggested Genelia for the part after she made it clear during that meeting that she was eager to resume acting.
Prasanna went on to describe the heroine of Sitaare Zameen Par as a “very beautiful character.” He drew parallels with the female lead in his earlier film Shubh Mangal Savdhaan, noting, “This character was again today's Indian woman with that mix of vulnerability and strength.”
He elaborated on the nuances that make the role challenging and praised Genelia’s portrayal, stating, “I said sir ye to bahut interesting hai, kyuki aap jab movie dekhoge to usme lot of nuances hai and it's a very tough role to play, which she has done very well. I think Genelia ke andar itna life hai itna positivity hai itna joy hai she lights up the screen. It was a delight working with her.”

Alongside Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh, Sitaare Zameen Par also stars Dolly Ahluwalia, Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, and a number of other actors. It is scheduled for release on June 20, 2025. Divy Nidhi Sharma wrote the screenplay, and Aamir Khan, Aparna Purohit, and Ravi Bhagchandka are producing the movie.
