Abhishek Bachchan recently made heads turn at a promotional event in Mumbai, not just for his dapper look, but for an accessory choice that sparked multiple reactions. The actor was seen wearing two luxury watches, one on each wrist. Fans were tempted to revisit the curious double-watch tradition followed by the Bachchan family.
This wasn’t a one-off occurrence. Abhishek and Amitabh Bachchan have been spotted sporting two or even three watches on several occasions. But this unique style choice isn’t about fashion alone. As Abhishek once revealed in a PTI interview, the practice began as a touching gesture by his mother, Jaya Bachchan.
“The trend of wearing two watches was started by my mom,” Abhishek explained. “Since I used to stay in a boarding school in Europe, she would wear two watches to keep track of both time zones. Later, dad followed the tradition, and it became a habit for our family.”
Over time, what began as a mother’s attempt to stay connected with her son across continents turned into a sentimental and distinctive signature of the Bachchans. Amitabh Bachchan even elevated this tradition into a playful fashion statement. During the promotions of his 2011 film Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap, the actor frequently showed up wearing multiple watches.
Just this year, during a post-match birthday celebration at Mumbai’s Dadoji Kondadev Stadium in February, both father and son were again spotted honouring the double-watch tradition.
Abhishek Bachchan, who was recently seen in Housefull 5 and Kaalidhar Laapata, will soon be seen in Siddharth Anand’s King, that stars Shah Rukh Khan along with Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone among many others.
