Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Thamma continues to perform strongly at the box office since its Diwali release.
The horror-comedy, produced by Maddock Films, has emerged as the studio’s biggest opener since Stree 2. As per trade tracker reports, Thamma collected an impressive Rs 12.5 crore on its third day after release.
Thanks to enthusiastic viewers, the movie had a great first day, grossing Rs 24 crore. Taking advantage of the longer holiday weekend, the momentum continued into Day 2, increasing its total by an additional Rs 18 crore.
With a total domestic collection of Rs 55 crore at the end of Day 3, the film has now surpassed the Rs 50 crore milestone, including its Rs 10 crore day-zero advance booking and a Day 3 collection of Rs 12.5.
On its third day, the Hindi (2D) version of Thamma showed steady growth in theatres.The occupancy rate for morning shows was 7.52%, but by the afternoon, it had increased to 19.35%. The figures showed a distinct upward trend in audience turnout as they increased further in the evening and night, hitting 25.52% and 25.14%, respectively.
The film, which was directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, centres on Ayushmann's character Alok Gupta, who develops feelings for Rashmika Mandanna's character Tadaka. In scenes that feature exhilarating cliff jumps and spooky battles, they battle supernatural forces and family chaos together.
A review by Moneycontrol notes, "‘Thamma’ ambitiously draws from key moments of ancient and modern Indian history to establish the supernatural powers of its central characters—from the journey of a conqueror in the 4th century BC to post-Independence India’s blood-soaked chapters. The intent is grand, but the narrative isn’t taut enough to hold it all together. It relies on convenient plot devices and cameos from other films in the universe to stay afloat."
Loaded with social media references, the catchy viral track Poison Baby, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s quirky performance as a bloodthirsty vampire, Thamma has quickly turned into a festive favourite among moviegoers.
