Choreographer Vijay Ganguly has recently debunked the rumours about Tamannaah Bhatia being considered for Dhurandhar’s song Shararat. Vijay said that Tamannaah was never considered for the sequence, citing the scene's nature and narrative requirements, in response to stories that suggested she was turned down.
Vijay voiced dissatisfaction in a lengthy social media post about how the song's original objective was overshadowed by headline-driven casting storylines. He made the point that spectacular framing and selective quoting frequently skew context and draw attention away from a film's artistic merit.
The choreographer took to his Instagram Story and penned, “I genuinely enjoy conversations around cinema and the many layers that go into making a film.” He further added that he usually avoids public commentary because words are frequently “selectively lifted, misquoted or sensationalised to serve headlines rather than the craft.”
Vijay clarified the casting decision by stating that Tamannaah was not approached because of her enormous celebrity power. He claims that Dhurandhar situates the song in a high-stakes narrative moment where storytelling and suspense are crucial.
He added, “It’s unfortunate that instead of the conversation staying on the song and the creative intent behind Shararat, the focus has shifted to comparisons between two wonderful artists, with strong and reductive terms like “rejections” being used – something that was never the spirit of what was shared.”
Vijay concluded, “Cinema is collaborative. It thrives on respect, nuance and context. I hope we can keep the spotlight where it belongs – on the work and the many people who pour their hearts into it.”
In another post, Vijay penned, “To clarify: Tamannaah Bhatia was never under consideration because her star power is so significant it might have overwhelmed the specific needs of this scene. In Dhurandhar, the music is woven into a high-stakes moment where the tension is key.”
He added, “The makers opted for two performers to keep the focus on the story’s progression. This choice was about protecting the film’s atmosphere and ensuring the narrative remains the hero of the sequence.”
He pointed out that the filmmakers purposefully selected two actors to keep the audience's attention on the plot's development, enabling the scene to complement the movie rather than detract from it.

Vijay emphasised that the choice was based on maintaining the mood of the movie and making sure the story continued to be the major character. Additionally, he pointed out that when reductive phrases like "rejected" are used without context, they can be deceptive and lead to needless conjecture about casting choices.
