Ayushmann Khurrana’s Diwali release Thamma is proving to be a festive winner at the box office. Continuing the actor’s strong streak after Dream Girl 2, the horror-comedy has not only received a massive opening but also outperformed expectations within its first four days.
Directed as part of the expanding horror-comedy Universe, Thamma stars Ayushmann alongside Rashmika Mandanna, Paresh Rawal, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, with cameo appearances by Varun Dhawan and Abhishek Banerjee.
The film has already raked in Rs 64.65 crore in just 4 days, surpassing the lifetime collection of Ayushmann’s Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (2020).
The opening day saw a spectacular Rs 24 crore, followed by Rs 18.6 crore on day two, Rs 13 crore on day three, and Rs 9.55 crore on day four.
While the collections show a gradual dip each day, trade analysts note that such trends are typical for Diwali releases. Films open huge on the festive day and stabilise before picking up again over the weekend. Given the steady momentum, Thamma is poised to cross the Rs 100 crore mark within its extended first week.
Ayushmann will soon begin shooting for Sooraj Barjatya’s next family drama, where he plays the new-age Prem opposite Sharvari Wagh. His next release is expected to be Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, co-starring Rakul Preet Singh, Sara Ali Khan, and Wamiqa Gabbi.
