The trailer of Aditya Dhar’s upcoming spy thriller Dhurandhar was unveiled recently. It immediately sparked conversations online and much of the attention centred on its visceral opening. The trailer begins with a disturbing torture sequence featuring Arjun Rampal as an ISI operative, a moment that has split the internet between those calling the violence excessive and those praising the filmmaker’s attempt to push boundaries within mainstream cinema.
Facing questions about the controversial sequence at the launch event, Arjun firmly chose not to elaborate. Instead, he redirected the conversation toward the larger significance of the film.
“I don’t want to talk about the scene much, because when I talk about a scene, the process, and the director’s mind, I find myself very boring,” Arjun said. “Toh uske baare me baat nahi karunga. But I will say that today is a special day, because such a special film has been made by this man, Aditya Dhar.”
Another moment that drew attention was Arjun Rampal accidentally revealing the name of Ranveer Singh’s character. Speaking about Ranveer’s complete immersion into his role, Arjun said that throughout the two-year shoot, he “never saw Ranveer once, but only Hamza.”

Dhurandhar features a heavyweight ensemble including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun. The film is loosely inspired by the Lyari Gang Wars in Pakistan and explores India’s covert intelligence involvement, with many characters reportedly drawn from real individuals.
Set for release on December 5, the film is generating buzz not only for its high-octane storytelling but also for the secrecy surrounding its characters and the ongoing debate about how far cinema can go in depicting brutality on screen.
