Aamir Khan, whose latest film Sitaare Zameen Par released on June 20, has finally shared a long-awaited update on the sequel to the iconic 1994 cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna with Salman Khan.
During a recent conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Aamir Khan addressed the speculation surrounding Andaz Apna Apna 2. He confirmed that director Rajkumar Santoshi is indeed working on the script, but clarified that the project remains in its nascent stage.
Aamir made sure to emphasise that he and Salman are proceeding cautiously and will only think about making a sequel if they are both entirely satisfied with the plot and its potential to live up to the original.
Speaking about the film's development, Aamir said, “I really believe that scripts have to come out organically. So Raj Santoshi is working on a version of Andaz Apna Apna 2, but it’s too early for me to say that it’s being made, because until the script is ready and both Salman and I don’t love what he narrates and we say yes — until then, the film actually won’t be greenlit. So right now, it’s in very early stages. But let’s all hope that he comes up with a good script. We’re all hoping."
Fans were naturally excited when the 60-year-old actor hinted at the potential for an Andaz Apna Apna sequel. But the family of the late Vinay Kumar Sinha, the original film's producer, was also troubled by his comments.
Aamir Khan was never involved as a producer on the original project, according to a statement released by Sinha's children in response. The development of the sequel is further complicated by their adamant declaration that they have no plans to sell the rights to Aamir or director Rajkumar Santoshi.
While fans may have to wait a little longer, the update has certainly rekindled excitement around the possibility of seeing the beloved duo share the screen once again.
