Komal Nahta, one of India’s most respected trade analysts, is back with a fresh season of his podcast Game Changers: The Producer Series. Known for candid conversations that cut past the gloss of cinema and into the grit of creation, this new season once again promises deep dives into the journeys of leading producers. The latest episode features Bollywood’s very own “Mr. Perfectionist” Aamir Khan, and it didn’t disappoint.

During the conversation, Aamir opened up about his long-cherished dream of adapting the Mahabharata for the screen. For years, speculation has swirled around whether he would actually take on a project of such epic scale, and on Nahta’s show, he gave one of his clearest indications yet. When a fan question addressed why the Ramayana is already in production while the Mahabharata still hasn’t been attempted on that level, Aamir explained his stance.

“Mahabharata has been in my mind for the last 25–30 years. My work has already started from the inside,” he told Komal Nahta, making it clear that for him, the process is as much internal as external. He went on to call the project “my life’s most important project,” emphasizing the personal weight he attaches to it.

Aamir admitted that production is still some way off but revealed an encouraging update: “In the next month or two, the initial writing process will start, but it is a time-consuming process.” He was quick to underline the scale of what lies ahead. “Mahabharata is not a film, it is a yagna, so you have to be prepared for that,” he said, choosing a spiritual metaphor to convey both the responsibility and devotion required.
