On August 1, the jury members officially announced the 71st National Film Awards winners in a press conference in New Delhi.
The full winners' list was unveiled on Friday, August 1, at the National Media Centre.
Among the major highlights, actors Shah Rukh Khan and Vikrant Massey have been honoured with the prestigious Best Actor awards for their exceptional performances in Jawan and 12th Fail respectively, while actress Rani Mukerji is set to receive the Best Actress award for her powerful role in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway.
The winners of the 71st National Film Awards have been officially announced, celebrating excellence across Indian cinema in 2023—a year regarded as one of the most successful for the industry in recent times. From record-breaking blockbusters to soul-stirring narratives, this year’s honorees reflect the depth, diversity, and creative brilliance of Indian filmmakers and performers.
One of the highlights was Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 12th Fail, which took home the coveted Best Feature Film award. Shah Rukh Khan, who won for his dramatic performance in Jawan, and Vikrant Massey, who won for his moving performance in 12th Fail, tied for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Rani Mukerji's powerful performance in Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway earned her the National Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was recognised for its broad appeal and lively storytelling by being named Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, among other noteworthy winners. The National Award for Best Feature Film Promoting National, Social, and Environmental Values went to Sam Bahadur, the war biopic that was based on Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.

The awardsare given after an incredible year in which popular Hindi films like Pathaan, Animal, 12th Fail, OMG 2, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, The Kerala Story, and Adipurush were released. The Telugu film industry also produced notable films like Dasara, Month of Madhu, Balagam, and Sita Ramam, which further highlighted the regional diversity of Indian narrative.
