Hazaribagh Parliamentary Constituency in Jharkhand is one of the 14 Lok Sabha seats from the state and holds significant sway in the Hindi belt of India. Hazaribagh goes to the polls on May 20 in the fifth phase of the general elections, while counting will be done on June 4 along with the rest of the country.

Former Union Finance Minister in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government Yashwant Sinha’s family has had a notable political legacy in Hazaribagh. Yashwant Sinha won thrice (in 1998, 1999, and 2009) from Hazaribagh, followed by his son Jayant Sinha, who won twice (in 2014 and 2019).

For this year’s Lok Sabha elections, the BJP decided not to nominate two-time Member of Parliament Jayant Sinha, and instead fielded Manish Jaiswal, a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Sadar, as its candidate. This is the first time Hazaribagh will not witness a candidate from the Sinha family for the first time since 1998.

Meanwhile, the Congress has fielded Jai Prakash Bhai Patel, MLA from Mandu, an Assembly segment within the Hazaribagh constituency.
