About Candidates
Following the death of BJP MP Girish Bapat, the BJP has fielded former mayor Murlidhar Mohol. The Congress counters with legislator Ravindra Dhangekar, who defeated the BJP in the Kasba assembly bypoll last year. This election pits BJP's Mohol against Congress's Dhangekar, both new faces in a direct contest.
Pune voted on May 13, with turnout increasing to 53.54% from 49.87% in 2019, despite some complaints about missing names from the electoral rolls. The increase of 69,854 votes compared to 2019 will be pivotal.
