Maharashtra polls: Battleground set in Kankavli as Nitesh Rane takes on Sandesh Parkar

In the 2019 Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Nitesh Narayan Rane won the Kankavli seat with a margin of 28116 votes.

Kankavli is located in Sindhudurg district and is a part of the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg Lok Sabha constituency. Along with Kankavli, this Lok Sabha constituency includes the Assembly segments of Kudal and Sawantwadi in Sindhudurg district, and Chiplun Sangameshwar, Ratnagiri, and Rajapur in Ratnagiri district.

Kankavli assembly seat is held by Union Minister Narayan Rane's son Nitesh Rane for the last 10 years. His first term as Kankavali MLA was on Congress ticket but he changed side to contest on BJP ticket in 2019. He is in fight against Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena.

BJP has fielded incumbent Nitesh Rane again. Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Sandesh Bhaskar Parkar is MVA candidate on the seat. While the contest in bipolar in the assembly, BSP has also pitted its candidate Chandrakant Abaji Jadhav.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Kankavli, Nitesh Rane accused the Congress of copying the BJP-Mahayuti manifesto and called the party anti-Hindu and the 'B-team' of the Muslim League. Rane also accused the Congress of giving guarantees before elections but claiming budget shortages after coming to power.
