As the counting of votes progresses in Bihar, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) looks set for a thumping victory, leading in over 170 of the 243 seats. The opposition INDIA bloc, dominated by the RJD and Congress, has been reduced to a distant second with just around 66 seats. Among the NDA partners, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has delivered one of the most striking performances, leading in 22 of the 29 seats it contested -- a strike rate of over 75 per cent.

For Chirag Paswan, this marks another milestone in his growing political journey. After his party won all five seats it contested in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Paswan has successfully carried that momentum into the Assembly polls. His focused strategy, limited but targeted seat selection, and high-pitched campaign appear to have paid off, strengthening both his party’s standing and the NDA’s overall tally.

Political observers say Paswan’s performance is proof that his appeal extends beyond his core Dalit voter base. According to exit polls and early trend analyses, his decision to field candidates with cross-caste appeal, including from upper castes, EBCs, and women, helped widen the LJP’s footprint. His campaign mixed emotional outreach, invoking his late father Ram Vilas Paswan’s legacy, with an emphasis on development and youth employment, positioning himself as a next-generation leader within Bihar’s political landscape.

Chirag Paswan’s success also reflects the NDA’s careful social arithmetic. While the BJP and JD(U) consolidated their traditional vote bases, the LJP’s performance helped the alliance tap into Dalit and EBC pockets where the RJD once dominated. His contribution has been particularly important in central and western Bihar, where the LJP has built strong local networks.
