IIT Gandhinagar opens admissions for MA in Society and Culture Programme 2025

The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) is now accepting applications for its postgraduate programme in Society and Culture for the academic session starting in July 2025. The last date to apply is 15th January 2025, and students with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline are eligible to apply. Interested candidates can submit their applications online at the official admissions portal.

About the Programme

The M.A. in Society and Culture at IITGN is an interdisciplinary course designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to navigate various professional domains. The programme offers a blend of theoretical and practical learning, enabling graduates to pursue diverse career opportunities in:

• Non-profit sectors (NGOs, policy think-tanks)


• Media and communication roles (journalism, advertising, writing, and human resources)


• Academic and research fields, including ecological sciences, public policy, and interdisciplinary studies


• International Ph.D. programmes

Highlighting the programme’s unique features, Prof. Jaison Manjaly, Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences at IITGN, stated, "The potential of interdisciplinary knowledge and skills is enormous in our times. The MA in Society and Culture helps students cultivate diverse perspectives on social and cultural factors, fostering new ways of thinking and problem-solving."

Prof. Manjaly, also the Principal Investigator of Curiosity Lab at IITGN, added, "This programme provides exposure to key disciplines within the Humanities and Social Sciences, including anthropology, sociology, cultural studies, economics, history, and philosophy, among others."

Research and Learning Opportunities

• Visits to historical and archaeological sites in Gujarat


• Participation in the IITGN Explorer Fellowships, which encourage travel across India


• National and international academic and industrial internships

Students are also supported through liberal financial assistance, including the On-Campus Employment Opportunities programme and travel scholarships of up to Rs 60,000 for presenting research at conferences.
