In a move aimed at academic support, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has announced that government schools in Delhi will hold remedial classes for students of Classes IX, X, and XII during the summer vacation period.
According to an official circular, regular school activities will be suspended from May 11 to June 30. However, remedial sessions will run from May 13 to May 31 to help students reinforce key subject concepts and improve overall learning outcomes.
The classes will be conducted in the morning, with sessions scheduled from 7:30 am to 10:30 am, divided into three one-hour periods. For schools operating in double shifts, separate wings will be used to ensure smooth conduct of classes for all students.
The focus for Classes IX and X will be on Science and Mathematics on a daily basis. A third subject may be included depending on the specific academic needs of students, as assessed by the school principal.
Participation in these classes requires parental consent, and students must wear school uniforms. Attendance will be recorded digitally.
To enhance the quality of instruction, teachers have been asked to provide individual attention during the sessions. School libraries will remain accessible for both self-study and book borrowing during this period.
In case of teacher shortages, guest or contractual teachers may be roped in to conduct classes. Although staff are generally not allowed to take leave during the summer schedule, exceptions can be granted with prior approval.
Furthermore, the circular directs district and zonal education officers to visit at least two schools each day to monitor how the remedial programme is being implemented across the capital.
