Around 712 out of the 2,000 IIT-Bombay students registered are without jobs

In a worrying trend for graduates from premium institutes in the country, almost 36 percent of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) students who registered for 2024 placements are yet to find jobs.

The placement season at the premier engineering institute begins from December and around 712 students out of the 2,000 registered are without jobs, according to a report by the Hindustan Times.

The grim data was shared by Dheeraj Singh, who is a former student of the institute and the founder of Global IIT Alumni Support Group. The placement season will officially end in May 2024.

This year the placement deficit was higher by 2.8 percent compared to the past year, when 32.8 percent of the students failed to secure employment. The institute had blamed the global economic meltdown for shortage of job offers.
