“The division saw record revenues in segments like Passenger Revenue (Suburban and Non-Suburban), PRS (Passenger Reservation System), freight, parking, catering, and AC EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) services. Passenger revenue itself accounted for more than Rs 3,782 crore, an all-time high,” said Vineet Abhishek, Western Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO).

According to the Railways, growing ridership of AC local trains was also instrumental in driving revenue growth. In 2024-25, over 4.65 crore commuters used AC locals, generating approximately Rs 215 crore. This marks a sharp increase compared to the previous year, when 3.64 crore passengers generated Rs 168 crore. On average, each AC EMU service earned Rs 47,863, which is nearly four times the Rs 13,548 generated by non-AC services.
