Mumbai businessman jumps to death from Bandra-Worli sea-link, body recovered in Santacruz

Amit Chopra's body was recovered from near Juhu in the jurisdiction of the Santacruz police station and no suicide not was found from his possession. According to Mumbai Police, financial problems might have led Chopra to take the extreme step.

A Mumbai-based businessman ended his life by allegedly jumping off the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in the wee hours of Wednesday. The deceased, identified as Amit Chopra, lived in Andheri (west) with his wife and son.

Police were quoted by The Indian Express as saying that the 47-year-old was in a taxi and asked the driver to stop at sea-link. He shouted about snake bite and jumped into the sea. Later, his body was found at seashore near Juhu in the jurisdiction of the Santacruz police station.

According to the police, Chopra, originally from Jodhpur in Rajasthan, ran an imitation jewellery business and took the drastic step as his business was doing well, but it could be confirmed only after a detailed inquiry. The police have not found any note from his possession or his residence.

The incident occurred around 1.30 am on Wednesday. Chopra boarded the taxi from Andheri and once he reached sea-link via Bandra, he started shouting that he had been bitten by a snake and asked the driver to stop the taxi. Soon after the driver stopped, Chopra opened the door and jumped from the sea-link, a police officer of the Bandra police station was quoted by The Indian Express as saying.
