Pune rain news: Hundreds relocated as heavy showers trigger flood-like situation in city, Pimpri-Chinchwad

Heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding in Pune city and Pimpri-Chinchwad, prompting evacuations of hundreds of residents to safer locations on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. The evacuation efforts were still ongoing, Mid-Day reported.

As per the report, 25 residents from Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Panchsheel Nagar in Pimple Nilakh and 45 from Laxminagar in Pimple Gurav were relocated to nearby schools. While, six residents from Sanjay Gandhi Nagar in Pimpri were shifted to Kamala Nehru School. The evacuation of residents from Jadhav Ghat was also initiated. Additionally, 40 people from Ramnagar in Bopkhel were moved to a municipal school.

“All zonal officers are in close coordination with the local police inspectors, and both PCMC and PCPC teams are collectively responding. We are also in constant touch with the police department. For the night, the PCMC control room is being monitored by Executive Engineer Mobility Sunil Pawar along with five other officers,” a civic official was quoted by Mid-Day as saying.
