A disturbing CCTV clip from Ghaziabad’s Govindpuram area has sparked outrage after it showed a woman brutally assaulting her elderly mother-in-law, even dragging her by the hair during a violent altercation on July 1, according to multiple media reports.
The footage, widely shared on social media, captures software engineer Akanksha attacking Sudesh Devi, her mother-in-law, while another woman, believed to be Akanksha’s mother, records the incident on her phone, as per NDTV.
The video, lasting one minute and 29 seconds, begins with a heated argument between Akanksha and Sudesh Devi outside their home. Akanksha, carrying two bags, is seen shouting at her mother-in-law, who sits on the staircase steps. When Sudesh notices she is being filmed, she attempts to snatch the phone, triggering a physical confrontation.
Akanksha slaps Sudesh, pushes her down and repeatedly strikes her head. Despite attempts by Akanksha’s mother to intervene, the assault continues. At one point, Sudesh tries to flee, knocking on a nearby door, but Akanksha yanks her back, flinging her against a wall before dragging her down the stairs. The attack only stops when the door opens and Akanksha pulls the elderly woman inside.
According to a report by India Today, Akanksha and her husband Antariksh, both software engineers, have been married for two-and-a-half years. While Antariksh works in Gurugram, Akanksha is employed remotely.
News18 reported that Sudesh Devi faced hurdles in filing a complaint, allegedly due to Akanksha’s family having police connections. After repeated visits to the Kavi Nagar Police Station, an FIR was finally registered. Investigations are ongoing.
