Bengaluru techie who fatally stabbed his wife and stuffed her body in a suitcase had a heated argument with her over her lost job and the resulting financial stress, according to reports in media.
The victim, Gauri, had previously worked in a private company after completing her bachelor's degree in mass media. However, she had recently quit the job and was actively searching for a new job. The couple frequently argued over her unemployment, as Rakesh, a project manager at Hitachi, was the sole earning member.
On the evening of March 26, a heated argument escalated between the couple while they were having their dinner. Rakesh allegedly slapped Gauri. In retaliation, Gauri picked up a knife and threw it at Rakesh, injuring him, according to police sources quoted by India Today.
Enraged, Rakesh used the same knife to stab Gauri two to three times, leading to fatal injuries, after which she died on the spot. He then placed her body in a travel bag and hid it in the bathroom.
Initial reports said Rakesh attempted to dispose of the body by shifting it into his car but failed. Investigators also revealed that after the murder, he had switched off Gauri's phone.
According to the report, Rakesh informed a carpenter living below his apartment about the murder, who then alerted his landlord. He requested the carpenter to notify the police about the murder and inform her family so they could carry out her last rites. The landlord then alerted the police control room immediately. The landlord immediately dialled the police.
Meanwhile, Rakesh immediately left for Pune after the murder. After reaching Pune, the accused went to the Shirwal Police Station. He informed the police that he has consumed poison and confessed to the murder. He was rushed to Satara Hospital for initial treatment and was later shifted to Sassoon Hospital in Pune.
A police team from Bengaluru's Hulimavu has reached Pune and is monitoring Rakesh's condition. If declared stable, he will be brought to Bengaluru for further investigation and legal action. Otherwise, he will be arrested post-recovery.
