As Mumbai prepares for the pivotal 2026 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, the civic body has issued comprehensive instructions for the city’s millions of voters, detailing essential protocols for polling day, Jan 15.

The directives aim to ensure a smooth and secure voting process while strictly prohibiting activities that could disrupt the electoral process.

Valid identification is paramount

The cornerstone of the voting procedure remains valid identification. While the Election Commission’s photo identity card is the primary document, officials have confirmed a list of alternative, legally acceptable proofs.

These include the Aadhaar card, passport, driving licence, PAN card and MNREGA job card. Additionally, a photo passbook, pension document with photograph, or official identity cards issued to MPs, MLAs and government staff will be accepted.
