Education sector gets Rs 1.29 lakh crore in Budget 2025

Allocation for schools has been increased to Rs 78,572.10 crore from Rs 73,008 crore (budget estimate), while higher education received Rs 50,077.95 crore.

The Centre provided Rs 1.29 lakh crore to the education sector in the Budget 2025-26, 6.6 percent higher than Rs 1.21 lakh crore for the current fiscal.

Allocation for schools has been increased to Rs 78,572.10 crore from Rs 73,008 crore (budget estimate), while higher education received Rs 50,077.95 crore.

Presenting the Budget for 2025-26 on February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a string of measures aimed at the education sector, including a Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence with a total outlay of Rs 500 crore.

Sitharaman has also proposed to remove TCS on remittances for education purposes, when they are out of a loan taken from a specified financial institution.
