Information technology (IT) giant Cognizant has surpassed its original artificial intelligence (AI) skilling target ahead of schedule and set a new ambition to train two million individuals globally by 2030.
The company had initially aimed to upskill one million people by 2026 but crossed the milestone earlier, prompting an expansion of its commitment to prepare workers for what it called an AI-powered future.
In February 2025, Chief Executive Officer Ravi Kumar S told Moneycontrol that the company has already trained 4 lakh people in AI, under the Synapse programme.
The company, in a release, said the rapid evolution of AI is reshaping work across roles and industries, citing a study with Oxford Economics that found 90 percent of jobs are expected to face disruption over the next decade.

Cognizant’s broadened push will focus on accelerating access to learning, forging partnerships with academic institutions and NGOs, and supporting communities through targeted programs.
In India, more than 1.5 lakh people have already benefited from Cognizant’s AI and Generative AI skilling efforts. The company said over 163,000 India-based associates have completed a Gen AI fundamentals course.
Additionally, around 76,000 have undergone intermediate training on Gen AI tools, and 9,000 have completed advanced role-based programs as of October 2025.
Its community learning initiatives have also reached nearly 39,000 individuals in the country, supported by more than 4,600 employee volunteers.

"The expansion of our Synapse commitment marks a significant step toward building a more future-ready workforce. We are proud to have surpassed our initial goal ahead of schedule, a testament to the dedication of our teams and partners," Kumar was quoted as saying in the release.
Cognizant said it will expand branded learning programs, deepen technology partnerships and increase philanthropic investments tied to AI era workforce readiness as part of its next phase of skilling.
