India will be hosting the AI Impact Summit on February 19 and 20, 2026, and marking a significant milestone in the country's journey toward becoming a global artificial intelligence powerhouse. In the official announcement, the government said that the summit will represent a strategic evolution from previous international AI gatherings as it shifts focus from planning to implementation and measurable outcomes.
Ministry of Electronics & IT said that the upcoming AI Impact Summit will build upon India's co-chairmanship role in recent AI Action Summit discussions and demonstrates the nation's commitment to responsible AI development. Unlike previous conferences that emphasized policy formation, it emphasised that this gathering will "mark a strategic shift from 'Action' to 'Impact'", and concentrate on delivering tangible results through international collaboration and practical AI deployment strategies.
"The Summit envisions a future where Al delivers real impact, advancing inclusive growth, social development, and a healthier planet," it said.
It added that the Al Impact Summit in 2026, will "build on the momentum of Bletchley Park, Seoul, and Paris to shape a future-oriented agenda for inclusive, responsible, and impactful Al cooperation."
AI Impact Summit 2026: Preparations underway
India is preparing hard to host the prestigious event and extensive groundwork is already underway through the IndiaAI mission. In its announcement, the government said that has provisioned over 34,000 GPUs through its compute portal, making high-performance AI infrastructure accessible to startups, academic institutions, and research organizations at subsidized rates averaging just 67 rupees per GPU-hour.
It informed that the nation's approach towards emerging artificial intelligence developments builds on the need to democratize AI technology while maintaining strict ethical standards.
It informed that four startups — Sarvam AI, Soket AI, Gnani AI, and Gan AI — have been selected to develop indigenous foundational models using local datasets.
The ministry said that safety and trust remains paramount in India's AI strategy. The IndiaAI Safety Institute oversees responsible AI development through comprehensive frameworks addressing bias mitigation, privacy enhancement, and deepfake detection. It said that eight responsible AI projects are currently underway, with additional initiatives being evaluated for watermarking, ethical AI applications, and risk assessment.
