Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed serious concern on Friday when asked whether he feared the world was edging closer to a third world war. Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin acknowledged the rising potential for global conflict, noting that tensions are mounting in various regions.

He pointed to several ongoing crises, including Russia’s own war in Ukraine and the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. Putin also voiced worry over the situation surrounding nuclear facilities in Iran, where Russian experts are currently involved in the construction of two nuclear reactors.

"This is troubling. I'm speaking seriously—no irony, no jokes," Putin said. "There is a growing potential for conflict, and it is happening right in front of us. It has a direct impact on us."

He emphasised the need for vigilance and diplomacy in response to these developments. "What’s needed now is not just close attention to what’s unfolding but also a strong push to find solutions—preferably peaceful ones—in every direction," he added.
