Karachi hit by 26 tremors in four days; quakes range between 2.0 and 3.6 magnitude

Karachi has experienced a total of 26 tremors over the past four days since the first quake struck on Sunday evening, Pakistan’s Meteorological Department confirmed on Wednesday, according to ANI citing ARY News.

The tremors were largely concentrated in the Malir, Quaidabad, Landhi, and Gadap areas of the city, as per the National Seismic Monitoring Centre. The magnitudes recorded ranged between 2.0 and 3.6 on the Richter scale.

Chief Meteorologist Ameer Haider attributed the seismic activity to the Landhi Fault Line and indicated that it is expected to subside soon. “The seismic energy gathered at the Landhi Fault Line is being released with quakes, which can be felt until tomorrow,” he told ARY News.

Despite the frequency of tremors, no damage has been reported so far, given the relatively mild intensity of the shocks. “These tremors are part of the ongoing seismic activity along the city's active fault lines,” an official was quoted as saying.
