Leaders from across the globe, including US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have condemned the dastardly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that killed 26 people, mostly terrorists expressing solidarity with India.
Terrorists struck at a prime tourist location in Pahalgam in south Kashmir on Tuesday, killing at least 26 people, mostly tourists, and injuring several others, according to officials. The deceased included two foreigners -- from the UAE and Nepal -- and two locals, they said.
United States
"Deeply disturbing news out of Kashmir. The United States stands strong with India against Terrorism," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
"We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies. Our hearts are with you all!" he added.
The attack came during US Vice President J D Vance’s maiden visit to India. Vance posted his condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack.
“Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack,” he posted on X.
Russia
In a communication to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi, Putin extended condolences over the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and said the "brutal crime" has no justification whatsoever and its perpetrators will face a deserved punishment.
He expressed "sincere condolences over the tragic consequences of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam whose victims were civilians — citizens of various countries".
Putin reiterated Russia's commitment to further increasing cooperation with Indian partners in fighting terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
"Please convey words of sincere sympathy and support to the near and dear ones of the deceased as well as wishes for a speedy recovery of all injured," he added.
Italy
Italian Prime Minister Meloni said she was "deeply saddened" by the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and expressed solidarity with the affected families, the injured, the Government, and the entire Indian people.
Saudi Arabia
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday condemned the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir as they co-chaired the Strategic Partnership Council.
Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Suhel Ajaz Khan, said the meeting began with a reference to the unfortunate terror attack that has happened in India.
"Both leaders expressed their condemnation for the terror attack. The Crown Prince conveyed his condolences and sympathies and offered any help in this regard to us," the envoy said.
UAE
The UAE also issued a statement of condemnation saying, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) affirmed that the UAE expresses its strong condemnation of these criminal acts and its permanent rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at undermining security and stability in contravention of international law.
The Ministry expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the government and people of India, and to the families of the victims of this heinous attack, as well as its wishes of a speedy recovery for all the injured."
Sri Lanka
Strongly denouncing the attack, the Government of Sri Lanka stated, “We strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir today. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to those injured.” The statement further emphasised Sri Lanka’s commitment to regional peace, saying, “Sri Lanka stands in firm solidarity with the Indian government and people of India in the fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”
UK
Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer posted on X, "The horrific terrorist attack in Kashmir today is utterly devastating. My thoughts are with those affected, their loved ones, and the people of India."
Iran
Iranian Embassy said in a post on X, "The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi strongly condemns the terrorist attack in the city of #Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the death and injury of a large number of innocent people. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the government and people of India, especially to the families of the victims of this attack, and wish a speedy recovery and good health to the injured."
France
Ambassador of France to India, Thierry Mathou, said his country stands in solidarity with India in the fight against terrorism.
"Strong condemnation of the dastardly attack in Jammu & Kashmir. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. France stands in solidarity with India in the fight against terrorism. #Pahalgam," he said in a post on X.
Israel
Israel's Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, extended his country's support to India in the fight against terrorism.
"Sad and appalled following the terrorist attack in J-K, which took the lives of innocent civilians. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families and our support is for the security forces in their struggle against terror," Reuven Azar said in a post on X.
European Union
EU chief Ursula von der Leyen on Tuesday condemned the killing of at least 26 people by gunmen in Kashmir as a "vile terror attack" but said India's "spirit is unbreakable".
"The vile terror attack in Pahalgam today stole so many innocent lives," she said in a condolence message on X to India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Yet I know that India's spirit is unbreakable. You will stand strong in this ordeal. And Europe will stand with you," the European Commission president added.
PM Modi cut short his trip to Saudi Arabia to return on Wednesday morning, while Home Minister Amit Shah rushed to Srinagar on Tuesday evening to spearhead the security measures.
The prime minister has vowed that these behind the attack will not be spared and brought to justice.
