A senior Iranian official has issued a chilling warning suggesting that US President Donald Trump could be targeted even in his Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago, as tensions escalate over past US actions in the Middle East.
Javad Larijani, a prominent advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, made the threat during a televised interview, claiming that Trump is now a marked man for authorising the assassination of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Qassem Soleimani in 2020.
“Trump has done something that he can no longer sunbathe in Mar-a-Lago. As he lies there with his stomach to the sun, a small drone might hit him in the navel. It’s very simple,” Larijani said, according to a report by Iran International.
‘Blood Pact’ campaign offers bounty for Trump’s killing
The remarks come as a chilling crowdfunding campaign known as “Blood Pact” (Ahde Khoun in Farsi) has emerged online, offering a reward for the killing of Trump. The platform, launched by pro-regime actors, claims to be raising funds to enact “retribution against those who mock and threaten the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.”
By the evening of July 7, the campaign claimed to have raised over $20 million. By the next morning, donations had exceeded $27 million. Its ultimate goal is to collect $100 million to fund the bounty against Trump.
“We pledge to award the bounty to anyone who can bring the enemies of God and those who threaten the life of Ali Khamenei to justice,” reads a message on the platform’s homepage.
Trump has been a target of repeated threats from the IRGC and other Iranian hardline factions since Soleimani’s killing in a US drone strike near Baghdad airport in January 2020. American intelligence officials have confirmed that the IRGC was involved in plots to assassinate Trump in retaliation.
Iranian media and clerics fuel campaign
Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency, which maintains close ties to the Revolutionary Guards, also reported on the Blood Pact campaign. It urged religious groups within Iran and abroad to publicly show solidarity with Supreme Leader Khamenei by assembling outside Western embassies and public spaces.
The outlet further demanded the application of “Islamic rulings on moharebeh” against Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In Iran’s legal system, moharebeh — meaning “waging war against God” — is one of the gravest crimes and carries the death penalty.
Last month, influential Shiite cleric Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi issued a fatwa against Trump and Netanyahu, calling them “enemies of God” and inciting global Muslim action against them.
Ayatollah Makarem’s fatwa stated: “Anyone who threatens or attacks the leadership and authority of the Islamic Ummah (community) is considered a warlord or criminal of mohareb.”
Under Iran’s Islamic Penal Code, those found guilty of moharebeh may face brutal punishments: execution, crucifixion, cross-limb amputation, or exile.
