Even in the shadow of tragedy, the spirit of travel endures. Just a day after the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed 26 lives, Kashmir’s iconic ski resort Gulmarg stood tall with an inspiring show of resilience.
On April 23, 2025, a total of 7,299 tourists boarded the Gulmarg Gondola—one of the world’s highest and most scenic cable cars—underscoring travelers’ continued faith in the Valley’s breathtaking beauty and warm hospitality. Official data shows that 4,982 visitors experienced Phase I, while 2,317 adventured to Phase II of the gondola ride, which offers panoramic views of snow-capped peaks.
This surge in tourist activity comes despite heightened security alerts and a sense of unease following the Pahalgam incident. Gulmarg, however, stood firm as a symbol of hope and resilience in Kashmir’s tourism landscape.
In response to the tragedy, the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC) announced full refunds for all unused Gondola tickets dated April 22 and 23. “As decided by the management, all no show/unconsumed Gulmarg Gondola tickets for Phase I and II shall be refunded in full,” the JKCCC confirmed via a post on its official X handle.
While the region mourns the lives lost, the high turnout in Gulmarg shows that travelers remain determined to explore, connect, and stand in solidarity with Kashmir.
