Yamaha has announced its new flagship Dolby Atmos soundbar system, the True X Surround 90A (model SR-X90A), which features a total of 12 up-firing speakers and a modular four-box setup. The premium system will be available starting September 2025, with a recommended retail price of £2,499 / AU$4,499 (approximately $3,300), with U.S. pricing to be confirmed.

Features
The True X Surround 90A includes a main soundbar, a subwoofer, and two wireless rear speakers. The standout feature is its 12 upward-firing height channels, powered by Yamaha’s YDA-141 amplifier, aiming to simulate overhead audio without ceiling-mounted speakers. This significantly exceeds the four or five up-firing drivers typically found in rival soundbars from brands like Samsung and LG.

Yamaha has also integrated Surround:AI from its AV receiver line into the system for adaptive audio processing, a first for its soundbars. The main unit houses four large oval full-range drivers and three tweeters arranged in a left-center-right configuration to deliver clear and full-spectrum sound.

Connectivity and design
The system supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Apple AirPlay, and Yamaha’s own MusicCast multi-room platform. It also uses the True X wireless system for seamless audio sync between the soundbar, subwoofer, and satellites. The wireless rear speakers can double as standalone Bluetooth speakers.
