X (formerly Twitter) is experiencing a widespread outage, with a sharp surge in problem reports on Downdetector. The disruption, which began early on November 18, has affected users trying to refresh timelines, load posts, or access the platform across devices. The outage could be due to the ongoing global Cloudfare outage.
Key problems faced by users
The Downdetector breakdown shows that 61 per cent of the complaints are linked to the X app, where users say the feed is not loading or the app refuses to connect to the server. About 28 per cent of users are reporting issues with the website, which fails to open or returns blank screens. Another 11 per cent of the reports mention server connection problems, indicating underlying backend issues affecting both mobile and desktop access.
The problem pattern suggests that the outage is affecting various layers of the service rather than a single feature. For many users, the disruption began with slow refresh speeds before the app stopped responding altogether.
Outage pattern on Downdetector
The outage graph on Downdetector shows a sudden and steep rise in reports. At around 1:35 AM, there were only 26 reports against a baseline of 22. The number climbed rapidly through the morning, eventually crossing 11,000 reports. Such a vertical spike typically reflects a platform-wide issue that users experience simultaneously across different platforms.
While the graph shows low activity overnight, the sharp escalation indicates the outage likely started early in the day and spread quickly as more users attempted to log in or refresh their timelines.
No official response yet
X has not posted any update about the outage on its official channels. There is no clarity on the cause of the disruption or when the service will return to normal. Users continue to rely on Downdetector for real-time status while facing difficulties accessing posts or sharing updates on the platform.
