WhatsApp to sync with Facebook and Instagram profile pics
WhatsApp may soon let users set their profile picture directly from their Facebook or Instagram accounts. The feature was spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.21.23 and has already rolled out to some beta users, with a wider release expected in the coming weeks.
How the new profile picture feature works
Users will see new options when editing their WhatsApp profile photo — alongside the usual camera, gallery, avatar, and AI image options, there will now be shortcuts for Facebook and Instagram. This will make it easier to set the same picture across Meta’s platforms in just a few taps.
Helpful for users with lost or older photos
The feature could be useful for people who no longer have access to their original display pictures on their phone. Instead of taking a low-quality screenshot from Facebook or Instagram, users can now directly import the same image into WhatsApp without compromising on picture quality.
You’ll need to link your accounts
To use this feature, users must link their WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram accounts through the Meta Accounts Center. This integration has been steadily growing, with more cross-platform features being added to enhance the overall Meta ecosystem experience.
Meta’s bigger plan to unify its apps
This is part of Meta’s ongoing effort to bring its apps closer together. Features like sharing Instagram stories to WhatsApp and adding WhatsApp contact buttons to Instagram business profiles are already live, and this profile picture sync is just another step in that direction.
