WhatsApp has added a new feature called Quick help from Meta AI, giving users an easier way to get AI assistance directly within group conversations. The feature allows participants to ask Meta AI about a specific message in a group chat without disrupting the flow of conversation. Instead of posting the query in the group, users can tap and hold on a message and start a one-on-one thread with Meta AI for more context, clarification, or insights.
How the feature works
Meta AI’s new integration is designed to provide private, personalized help inside WhatsApp. When a user chooses to ask Meta AI about a message, it creates a separate chat thread with the AI. Importantly, WhatsApp highlights that personal messages remain private — Meta AI only sees the content that a user chooses to share.
For example, in a group conversation discussing travel plans, someone can select a particular message about flight timings, tap on it, and instantly ask Meta AI for assistance in a separate thread. This keeps the main group uncluttered while still allowing members to get quick answers.
Step-by-step: How to ask Meta AI about a message
1. Tap and hold a message in your group chat.
2. Select More options (three vertical dots).
3. Tap Ask Meta AI.
4. If prompted, tap Continue to confirm.
5. Type your query in the message field.
6. Tap AI Send (shown as a paper airplane with sparkle dust).
The AI response appears in the private chat thread with Meta AI. Users then have the option to forward the reply back to the group if they feel it’s relevant.
Sharing AI responses with others
WhatsApp also makes it simple to share Meta AI’s replies with friends or groups. Users can:
1. Open the chat with Meta AI.
2. Tap and hold the response they’d like to forward.
3. Tap Forward (double arrow with curved tail).
4. Choose the individual or group chat.
5. Optionally, add a message before sending.
6. Tap Send (paper airplane icon in a circle).
