This once-popular iPhone is now considered a ‘vintage’ product by Apple

The iPhone XS, Apple’s once-flagship successor to the iPhone X, has officially been added to the company’s vintage product list, signalling a formal end to its active support life cycle. Apple now considers the 2018 iPhone model “vintage” as more than five years have passed since it was last sold via official channels.

The iPhone XS, launched in September 2018, was a performance-focused update rather than a design overhaul. It retained the iPhone X’s edge-to-edge OLED screen and notch, but introduced the A12 Bionic chip, improved dual cameras, and dual SIM support through eSIM. At the time, it was a modest yet solid upgrade — especially for those who were coming from the era of iPhones with a Home button.

Today’s update, spotted by MacRumors journalist Joe Rossignol, comes months after Apple classified the iPhone XS Max—the XS’s larger sibling—as vintage in late 2023.

So what does “vintage” mean in Apple’s terms? Devices on this list may still qualify for repairs at Apple Stores or authorised service providers, but only while spare parts last. In roughly two more years, the iPhone XS will be labeled “obsolete,” at which point hardware service from Apple will cease entirely.
