Summers are already here, and I find myself turning back to something essential — a dependable air conditioner that doesn’t just cool the room but does it with efficiency, safety, and a sense of calm. I have been trying Sharp's all-new 1.5 Ton 5 Star Inverter Split AC (model AHSI18V5BSC) for a few weeks, and here are my thoughts about it.
But before delving into the review part, let’s take a look at the features that it offers. The Sharp AC features a 7-stage health filtration system including PM 0.3, anti-bacterial, dust, catechin, vitamin C, activated carbon filters, and an aroma diffuser. Not only that, there are precise temperature control features as well that let users adjust values in +/-0.5°C. Durability is also covered with Nano Coating, Anti-Corrosive Gold Fin, and Japan 7 Shield Protection covering fire, corrosion, voltage, lightning, damage, vibration, and weather resistance. The unit includes self-diagnosis for error detection, etc.
Design and installation
Sharp’s all-new 1.5 Ton 5 Star Inverter Split AC (model AHSI18V5BSC) has an indoor unit along with an outdoor unit. The indoor unit’s design is subtle and nothing flashy. But, that’s a good thing as it allows the AC to fit well with different kinds of interior design. The design is focused on what matters: cooling capacity, air quality and throw and long-term reliability. The indoor unit is plain white with clean lines and sits flush against the wall. The air vent is wide and offers both vertical and horizontal swing options, both motorised. That’s something not many ACs offer at this price point.
The outdoor unit is solid and is slightly bigger than other ACs of the same capacity. Now, before you jump onto the fact that the size is bigger, most high-performance ACs come with high-quality compressors and have relatively more weight as well. That calls for overall bigger housing. The mounting bracket is usual and fits well outdoors.
It has a 6-sided all-metal enclosure. I’ve seen other units that feel fragile or plasticky, but this one feels like it’s ready to take on storms — quite literally, since Sharp also claims wind- and rainproof casing under what they call the “Squall Shield”, which should add more protection and long-term durability.
Let's get to the installation part. So, the service was prompt, the installation guy came in just one call and installed the AC within an hour or so.
But how well does it cool? Let’s jump to our next section – Cooling performance in the real world.
Cooling performance
The cooling is impressively good. The AC uses what Sharp calls Turbo Cool Technology, and while the name may sound like marketing fluff, it performs. In Delhi’s current heat and humid surroundings, I’ve tested it during peak noon hours. Within five to six minutes of powering it on in normal mode, the difference in room temperature was significant. I sit back on the sofa and can feel the shift, not just in degrees, but in the quality of air. The cooling isn’t harsh or uneven, and it circulates smoothly thanks to its long airflow throw. Sharp claims it can deliver air up to 18 metres, which is again one of the best you can find in the market. I didn’t measure it, but my entire living room, including the far corner reading nook, felt uniformly cool.
What makes the Sharp AC stand out from the dozens of others I’ve used over the years is its approach to health. This model features a seven-stage filtration system. Initially, I didn’t think much of it. But within days of using it, I noticed a subtle improvement in how the room felt — less stuffy, less dusty, and more breathable. In fact, I also turned on my air purifier to check the AQI in the room, and it was well under 80 without the air purifier turned on. I dug into the specs and learned that the filters include everything from PM 0.3 and anti-bacterial layers to a catechin filter, activated carbon, and even a vitamin C diffuser. It sounds like overkill until you remember how poor indoor air quality can be in Indian cities. During one particularly dusty evening when I kept the windows open for a bit too long, I could feel the difference — within an hour of running the AC, the air was noticeably cleaner.
Another important aspect of the AC is how quiet the unit runs. If you are in the eco or sleep mode, you can barely hear the AC’s noise. Even in normal mode, the AC runs relatively quietly.
The compressor and fan noise are minimised. During night mode or when running in Chill or Relax mode, I often had to check if the AC was still on. The sound profile is important for people like me who are sensitive to background hums when trying to sleep or work. Even during Turbo mode, which pushes the fan to its highest speed, the sound is still softer than usual.
The Sharp AC also features what the company calls “I FEEL Technology,” a microprocessor-driven system that keeps the room temperature within half a degree of the set value. And it works. On other units, I often feel bursts of too-cold air, which then shuts off and creates a cycle of overcooling and warming. Here, it maintains a steady, comfortable temperature without making the room feel like a fridge. Whether I’m working on my laptop or catching a nap in the afternoon, the experience feels consistent and controlled.
Then there’s a 7-in-1 convertible system, which allows you to vary cooling performance between 50% to 110%. That means you’re not always blasting full power when it’s unnecessary. There’s a mode for every scenario — whether you’re alone, working, relaxing with family, or having guests over. I often use the 70% during work hours, and bump it up to 90% or 100% in the evenings. Not only does this help with electricity consumption, but it also makes the unit feel more responsive to actual use cases.
The best part is that I reduce it to 50% at night, and the AC just maintains the temperature while consuming relatively less power.
If I had to point out one shortcoming, it would be the lack of smart connectivity. In 2025, many ACs now support Wi-Fi, app control, and even Alexa or Google Home integration. This Sharp model keeps things traditional. There’s no app, no voice command — only a physical remote. While I don’t personally mind this simplicity, it may disappoint users looking for a fully connected home experience. Also, this isn’t a deal breaker as you can choose to buy a smart IR remote and use it to convert your AC into a smart AC and the device barely costs Rs 1,000.
On the plus side, the remote itself is easy to use. It offers all essential functions like mode switching, fan control, turbo mode, timer, and swing adjustments. There’s no backlight, but there’s a display that indicates everything clearly.
Lastly, there’s the warranty, and this is where Sharp makes a solid offer — seven years of comprehensive warranty and ten years on the compressor.
Verdict
The Sharp 1.5 Ton 5 Star Inverter Split AC (2025) is a solid all-rounder. It focuses on what matters: fast and efficient cooling, clean air, quiet operation, and long-term reliability. For those who don’t need app connectivity and are more concerned with durability and air health, this model checks every box.
At Rs 53,999, it offers good value. Whether you’re buying your first AC or upgrading after years, this unit is built to handle Indian summers — and do it quietly, efficiently, and cleanly.
