After Apple’s iPhone 16 series release last month, Samsung is gearing up to launch its Galaxy S25 series globally soon. The top-of-the-line smartphone from the series, the S25 Ultra, is expected to implement improvements and upgrades to the hugely popular Galaxy S24 Ultra. After Samsung put its full effort behind Galaxy AI features for this year's S24 and other phones, we can expect it to continue with next year’s S25 lineup.
Here's what we've heard so far about the Galaxy S25 Ultra, along with some credible leaks or rumours, which point out what Samsung has planned.
Design
An Android Authority report in collaboration with X tipster @Onleaks suggests that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will have a more streamlined design with a slightly slimmer body and thinner bezels. All the sides will also sport a flat design, with Samsung going with a completely flat brick design, like the Pixel 9 series.
If we look at the back, the camera rings are expected to have a textured design surrounding the sensor. The rings’ thickness would be higher than the ones used in the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Display
According to some credible reports, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra would have a 6.9-inch screen, which would be a slight upgrade over the 6.8-inch of the S24 Ultra. Coincidentally, the screen is the same size as the recently announced iPhone 16 Pro Max. The S24 Ultra’s peak brightness had been increased to 2,600 nits from the 1,750 nits of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, and we can expect a slight upgrade in brightness in the S25 Ultra as well.
Cameras
Samsung is expected to retain the 200MP primary sensor and enhanced AI processing for better low-light performance in the S25 Ultra. We can also expect a 12MP ultra-wide sensor and two telephoto lenses, one with a 3x optical zoom and the other with a 10x optical zoom, like the S24 Ultra. The ultrawide lens is expected to jump from a 12MP sensor on the S24 Ultra to a 50MP one on the upcoming phone.
We can also expect the usual software AI tweaks and image-processing algorithm upgrades with the S25 Ultra. This could enable better low-light performance and image processing.
Release date and Price
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is expcted to be launched at Samsung's annual Unpacked event in January 2025, after CES 2025, which ends officially on January 10. According to early rumours, the phone's base variant could cost around Rs 1,20,000 and may have 16GB RAM + 256GB storage.
Further, it could come with a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging support.
