If you've been a longtime Microsoft Word user, you must be familiar with its default paste option, which retains the source formatting from where the content is copied. Copying and pasting is one of the major benefits of Word. But, many times by retaining the source format, users complained about interruption or time wasting in their flow of work.

Microsoft has finally fixed this annoying feature. In its new blog post, Microsoft announced, “We’ve heard from many of you that the current Keep Source Formatting default setting is not meeting your needs, and you would prefer for the default option to be Merge Formatting when pasting from other programs."

This new automatic merge formatting feature will be available for Microsoft Word Windows users running Version 2405 (Build 17624.20000) or later. However, it will not be available for macOS or web users currently.

Before this update, "Keep Source Formatting" was the default option whenever users pasted content without accessing the paste menu, typically through the Ctrl + V shortcut or by selecting Paste after a right click.
