Meta is gearing up to unveil a new pair of smart glasses that go beyond voice commands. At its upcoming Connect conference next month, the company is expected to launch Hypernova, its first consumer-ready glasses with a built-in display. Alongside the glasses, Meta will also introduce a futuristic neural wristband that lets you control devices with subtle arm movements.

According to reports, Hypernova will cost around $800 and is being developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the eyewear giant behind brands like Ray-Ban. Unlike Meta’s earlier smart glasses that relied mostly on voice assistants, these new ones will have a tiny color display tucked into the right lens.

But don’t expect a full-blown virtual screen in front of your eyes just yet. The display will be small, with a field of view of around 20 degrees, and will mainly show bite-sized information such as text messages, notifications, and simple updates. Think of it as a heads-up display rather than an immersive AR experience.

The glasses will also be a bit bulkier and heavier compared to their voice-only predecessors, which is why Meta is not betting on massive sales right away. Instead, the company seems to be positioning Hypernova as a first step toward more advanced consumer AR glasses.
