Threads has gained a lot of popularity since its inception more than two years ago, and garnered plenty of interest in its first few days, with millions of user sign-ups. However, since then, it has struggled to keep up that momentum and has seen a slower number of user sign-ups in recent times, compared to X or Bluesky. However, in a bid to regain that popularity, Threads is now testing letting users sign up with a Facebook account to gain more users from Meta’s other popular social media platform.

The new Threads login method has been spotted by Social Media Today, which confirms that a Meta support article points out that using their Facebook account, users can sign up for Threads. The article states: "Signing up to Threads with your Facebook account helps unlock features that work across Threads and Facebook, like using the same login info to access both apps. If you create a Threads profile with your Facebook account, we’ll combine your info across Threads and Facebook."

Meta has also confirmed that, currently, this option is not available to everyone just yet. With this login method via Facebook, Meta acknowledges that what people want from Instagram is different from what they want from Threads, and their content on the Threads app will be catered to their experience and likes on Facebook.
