Is OnePlus sending your data to China? US lawmakers raise alarm

Is your OnePlus phone secretly collecting your personal data? That’s the big question two US lawmakers are now asking.

As per a report by Reuters, lawyers John Moolenaar and Raja Krishnamoorthi sent a letter to the U.S. Commerce Department, urging them to investigate whether smartphones made by OnePlus could be posing security risks to users in the United States.

They claim a recent report shared with their committee suggests that OnePlus devices might be collecting and sending users’ personal data to servers in China without users even knowing. This could include sensitive information, the lawmakers warned.

What makes this more serious is that OnePlus phones are sold widely in the US, including by major retailers, and work on at least two U.S. wireless networks. This means a lot of American users could potentially be affected.
