iPhone Air reportedly going steady with its production despite concerns over market demand

Multiple reports in recent weeks have claimed that Apple is cutting production of its recently launched iPhone Air owing to slow demand. However, a new report contradicts those claims and suggests that the phone is maintaining its target of 7 million units for the 2025 holiday quarter.

Apple introduced its first ultra-slim smartphone, the iPhone Air, in September alongside the other iPhone 17 series smartphones. Owing to its higher-than-anticipated asking price and lack of key features, recent speculation suggested that the phone hasn't exactly been flying off the shelves, and Apple was planning to scale back iPhone Air production due to lower-than-anticipated demand. However, a recent report indicates that Phone Air is maintaining its production targets, and Apple has confidence in the device’s long-term prospects.

An investor note released on October 26 by TD Cowen and viewed by AppleInsider suggests that Apple isn't reducing the number of iPhone Air units it will produce in 2025. Moreover, the note adds that iPhone Air production for the 2025 holiday quarter remains unchanged at 3 million units for the last quarter and 7 million units for Q4 2025. Overall, iPhone 17 series production remains at roughly 54 million and 79 million units for the same periods.

This suggests that there is a steady demand for all iPhone 17 models, especially the iPhone Air, which contradicts a string of more pessimistic reports released recently. For instance, earlier this month, a Nikkei Asia report claimed that Apple is scaling back production of the new iPhone Air because of lower-than-expected sales, especially outside China.
