Apple’s iPhone 17 series is expected to debut in September 2025, bringing notable updates in both design and hardware. The upcoming lineup will reportedly include four models — iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max — marking the end of the “Plus” variant. Key upgrades include a thinner chassis, improved displays, and revamped camera systems.
New addition: iPhone 17 Air
Apple is reportedly introducing a new iPhone 17 Air model, which will slot between the base iPhone 17 and the Pro models in terms of pricing and features. This device is expected to have a much slimmer body — potentially around 5.5mm thick — making it the thinnest iPhone yet. To accommodate this, Apple may reposition internal components such as the USB-C port and speaker grilles.
Uniform 120Hz ProMotion displays
For the first time, all four iPhone 17 models could support ProMotion display technology, offering adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. This is made possible by switching to LTPO OLED panels across the board — a feature that was earlier limited to the Pro models.
Camera redesign and upgrades
The iPhone 17 Air, Pro, and Pro Max models are tipped to get a redesigned rear camera layout, potentially in a horizontal or oval-shaped bump. Meanwhile, the base iPhone 17 is expected to retain a vertical pill-shaped camera island.
Another major upgrade is a new 24MP front-facing camera with a six-element lens on all models, a significant leap from the current 12MP sensor. The iPhone 17 Pro Max could also be the first to feature three 48MP rear cameras — wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto — with support for 8K video recording.
Faster connectivity with Apple’s own Wi-Fi 7 chip
Apple is said to be integrating its first in-house Wi-Fi chip across all iPhone 17 models. Support for Wi-Fi 7 is expected to boost speed, reduce latency, and improve power efficiency. Some models may also adopt Apple’s custom 5G modem for better network integration.
More RAM and revised pricing
The iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max, and Air could come with 12GB of RAM, up from the current 8GB standard. The base model is likely to stick with 8GB. In terms of pricing, the iPhone 17 may start at $799, the new Air model at around $899, and the Pro variants from $999 and above.
Although earlier rumours suggested new display coatings and material changes, some of these may not make the final cut due to production constraints.
