Apple’s new iPhone 17 Pro Max has made it to the top three smartphone cameras in DxOMark’s ranking, overtaking the Vivo X200 Ultra by a single point. It now sits just behind the Oppo Find X8 Ultra and Huawei Pura 80 Ultra.

Controversial win over Vivo
The result has sparked debate since the Vivo X200 Ultra has technically stronger photo hardware. Many users find it strange that the iPhone still ranked higher, but DxOMark explained the score was driven by Apple’s video performance.

Where the iPhone shines is video recording. DxOMark gave it top marks for ultra-wide and main camera video quality. Reviewers praised its accurate exposure, natural colors, smooth zoom, and reliable performance even in low light.

Vivo still leads in photos
If still photography is the priority, the Vivo X200 Ultra is ahead, scoring 173 points in photos compared to the iPhone’s 166. For pure photo enthusiasts, Vivo and Huawei still offer stronger results.
